Coronavirus-- We're Going Online!

As outlined in Dr. Finger's March 16 announcement, Reeves Learning Commons will be closing for the remainder of the semester. 

What does this mean for the library?

• The library's physical spaces will be closed beginning at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday, March 17, 2020. 
• Any regular library materials that have been borrowed by students have been renewed through May 1, 2020. 
• We will no longer be providing books via interlibrary loan for the rest of the semester. We will continue to fulfill article requests, as these are done electronically. Please be aware that many other libraries around the country have also closed, so it may be more difficult for us to find a lender. We will do our best!
• Any interlibrary loan materials, reserve items, or regular library items that you have out that you need to return should be either dropped off at the Campus Police office (Admin Annex 115, across from the Greensburg Room) or returned to the library via mail (Reeves Library, 1 Seton Hill Dr., Greensburg, PA  15601). 

What IS still open?

• All of our electronic resources! Our databases, Ebook Central, our LibGuides, open access materials, our YouTube channel-- all of those resources are still at your fingertips. 
• The library staff will continue to be available via email throughout the closure-- if you have a question or need support, email one of us. Most of us will not have access to our work phones, but we may be able to call you back if you need real-time support.

How to Reserve a Study Room

In MySHU, click on "Help Desk" in the left menu bar.

Next, locate the "Reserve a Room" box in the lower right-hand corner of the screen and select the "All Other Rooms" link.

From the drop-down menu, choose "Reeves."

On the next page is the form to fill out your request. 

The study rooms available for reservation in Reeves are:

Reeves 114 (seats 2)

Reeves 115 (seats 2)

Reeves 116 (seats 4)

Reeves 117 (seats 2)

Reeves 120 (seats 2)

Reservations start and end on the hour or half-hour (e.g., 2:00-3:30, not 2:20-3:35). 

You will receive an automated response email and then receive a separate, personalized room confirmation email.

Room requests are not final until a personalized Room Confirmation is received. Requests sent late in the day (after 3:15) will not be processed until the next business day. Any rooms that have not been confirmed are available on a first-come, first-serve basis.

State of the Learning Commons

We're just a little crazy around here!

As student athletes, musicians, guides, and new students start trickling onto campus, Reeves Hall is unfortunately still in some disarray. The good news is that the staff of the various departments are still reachable by phone and/or email, and we are even more or less moved into the Learning Commons space!

The Solution Center is up and running on the upper level of Reeves, and the Career & Professional Development Center, the Writing Center, and the Center for Innovative Teaching are partially moved in.

The Career & Professional Development Center looks pretty together, too!

The library staff (except for Dr. Stanley, who has already been moved upstairs-- pop into his new office and say hi!) will be moving next week, but at the moment are still located in The Reading Room. 

There are even comfortable chairs for you to sit in when you visit Dr. Stanley on the main level!

Almost all of the library materials are available; the books and print periodicals are in their permanent locations and are no trouble to access. DVDs are a little tougher, but we can make it happen if you ask! The children's room items are still in storage, but we hope to have them moved in shortly (we're just waiting on shelves).

Furniture is trickling in-- I'm watching a few pieces for the O'Hara room come in as I type! It's an exciting, if chaotic, time, and we're excited to share these new learning spaces with you!

I think I speak for all of the library staff when I say that we can't wait for our furniture to arrive so we can move back upstairs to our permanent office location!

As a side note, we had originally planned to be closed this Saturday, as we have been throughout the summer, but will instead be open 9:00-1:00, along with the Solution Center. We'll be starting our fall operating schedule next week.

We're still waiting to learn our move-in date, but in the meantime, here are some update photos to tide you over.

So close we're almost packing!

The main level of the Learning Commons is progressing and we are getting excited! The hope is that we will be able to move into the new space at some point next week. Fingers crossed and prayers said!

It's starting to look real!

Some of the library staff had the opportunity to check in on progress upstairs yesterday. We're excited to see that most of the new walls are up and that it's becoming easier to envision the Learning Commons.

These will be small podcasting and recording rooms. 

The area that used to be behind the stacks, where the individual study desks were located. There will be a large conference-style room located along this wall. 

Offices are going in.

Movin' On Up!

Not only is the inside of Reeves Memorial Library getting a facelift but our resident outside tenant, the groundhog, is also getting new digs (pun intended).

This is where it has lived for years.

And this is apparently its summer place.

Be it ever so humble there's no place like home.
